Why Constitution Day?

Some teacher organizations celebrate "Teacher Appreciation Day”.  This certainly seems to be self-serving at best.  Arizona Professional Educators wanted to commemorate a day that:

  1. had special significance not only for educators, but also for all Americans
  2. focused on the fundamental principles that have molded the United States in to a model for all liberty-loving nations
  3. reflected the Professional Philosophy that AZPE was founded upon.

Constitution Day not only clearly filled these criteria, but was also a day that, unknown to many in education, was mandated by federal law to be celebrated in every school.

The Legacy of the Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was intended to be an official statement explaining why the 13 American colonies had declared their independence from Great Britain. In the years following its passage, this statement of principles about the rights of man grew to mean much more.

AZPE Member Benefit Information

Many members point out that the greatest benefit is belonging to a true professional organization that is founded on an unchanging professional philosophy and that AZPE does not spend dues money on partisan politics nor on controversial social issues.
